It’s my birthday today! Yes 6 September is Metiya Day! 😃 Where are my September babies at? I wish you so much love and blessings during this special month and what a better way than to share some lessons life has taught me over the past few years, things I would tell my younger self that could have helped me along the way. The biggest takeaway for me is that I’m supposed to be here. We are all God’s children and the bible says he loved you before he even formed the world (Ephesians 1:4). That changed so much for me, if you’ve heard my story, you know that I carried so much shame from the circumstances of my birth, to the survival guilt of losing so many relatives in my childhood, and then the trauma of abuse. It was difficult to be honest. But I praise God for keeping me and I am convinced that his light is greater than the enemy’s darkness. One of the the most important thing I would tell my younger self is that God had a plan for her life and would not leave until it was accomplished.

I would also tell her that she mattered just as much as everyone else. It doesn’t matter the circumstances of your birth, whether you were wanted or not, whether your parents were married or if you even got the chance to know your parents – regardless, God wants you to know that HE chose you, he loves you, he purposed you and he redeemed you and he will NEVER regret you or abandon you. God has tattooed your name on the palm of his hand because you are SO important to him and this world would not be the same without you. So here are 30 things I would write in a letter to my younger self, there are still guidelines for my life now and will help me as I get older and so I hope they help you too.
What I would say to my younger self
- You are supposed to be here
- Your life has a purpose (even when it doesn’t feel like it)
- You are responsible for your healing
- You deserve to be poured into as much as you pour into others
- Your result will match your audacity (faith to believe)
- It’s okay to want more
- Your way is never as good as God’s way
- Joy is an inside job
- It starts with YOU
- Boundaries should be taught alongside math and science, learn them now before it costs you more
- If you let God lead you through it you’ll come out STRONGER
- Not all pain has a purpose but it can if you give it to God
- It’s okay and necessary to tell God how you feel (and tell him often)
- Great things take time (take it easy)
- No experience in your life has ever been wasted
- You and you alone are responsible for YOUR happiness. Everyone else is also responsible for their happiness
- The level of relationship you have with both God and with man is determined by how deep you can go
- Money spent on therapy is money invested
- Money spent on travelling is money invested
- Money spent on learning is money invested
- You can learn a lot from a book
- Go where you are valued
- You can’t compare your life with anyone else because no-one has walked the journey you’ve walked
- It’s really important to keep on dreaming, not everyone will understand but keep dreaming bold audacious dreams
- God will not leave you an orphan
- You will never walk alone because God is your shepherd
- The righteous shall never be put to shame (Your belief makes you righteous like Abraham who believed and was accounted righteous)
- God is using every experience you’ve been through to equip you for the position you are going to occupy
- It’s okay to rest
- Forgive yourself too.

Thats it my darlings, my top thirty lessons to you and me on my birthday! Let me know if you resonate with any of these and what you would tell your younger self. It really is a good exercise to try and I definitely encourage everyone to write to their younger self when you are ready. I remember my sister Anna told me that she had written a letter to her younger self years ago, and I was so surprised and scared at just the thought of sitting with those memories and rauma because I had buried them for so long. But one day I was able to do it, and the tears came and the pain came, but by God’s grace I got through it and so will you. Have a look at my last post about how to start your healing journey to help you learn how to be gentle and kind to yourself through this process.

Thank you so much for joining me on my birthday. I appreciate you my darling reader and it means so much that you took some time to share in these words and lessons with me today. God bless you and keep you always.
Love and birthday light
